Joint Lab design brief
A planned comparison of plain pin, adjustable friction, and indexed detent joints using a common teaching fixture.
Question: Which joint approach best suits a moving body panel after strength, control, play, repeatability, and wear are tested?
What this record covers
The Joint Lab starts with three joint concepts: a plain pin, an adjustable friction joint, and an indexed detent. Each interactive teaching diagram shows how a panel could rotate; the detent can also show selected display angles snapping into place. The geometry is illustrative and is not derived from CAD.
What has been tested
No physical joint tests or measurements have been performed or published for this notebook. The planned test protocol and downloadable data sheets are blank of results. There is no selected fit clearance, holding torque, breakaway torque, wear result, or winning joint.
Next evidence needed
The protocol proposes a common fixture and measurement method. A provisional parametric CAD draft now exists in the source repository, but its dimensions, physical fit, and printability remain unreviewed. Gavin still needs to confirm the setup and test conditions, review CAD, print and evaluate specimens, and provide raw measurements before the three options can be compared or a decision made.
