Step 02 · Mechanism Explorer
Turn a hinge. Move a slider.
Scrub a provisional hinge-slider design, change its dimensions, and try a simplified panel clearance challenge. This is ideal rigid-part geometry. Its dimensions and physical assembly await review; it does not predict friction, stress, print fit or measured travel.
Explore the linkage
The blue crank and panel rotate about O. The amber link joins C to S. The teal slider stays on its straight guide at offset e. The pink circle is a fixed illustrative obstruction. The blue dashed capsule is the current clearance envelope; the amber dashed capsule marks the closest pose.
No finite pose can be drawn for the current inputs. Correct the dimensions or reset to the provisional source.
Blue: hinged crank and panel · Amber: connecting link · Teal: slider · Pink: fixed obstruction · Blue dashed: current panel envelope · Amber dashed: closest envelope. This is not measured part clearance.
Configured sweep: -60° to 60°. Angles outside it are reported, not accepted as valid poses.
As θ increases: Toward +X
Ideal geometry is reachable across the configured sweep.

Can the panel clear the obstruction?
The panel is bounded by a rotating capsule: its centerline runs from the pivot inset to the far edge, with radius equal to half the panel height. Its rounded ends extend past the drawn rectangular panel, making this a conservative 2D envelope. The fixed obstruction is a circle at (57, 40) mm with a 5 mm radius. The required end pose is the maximum configured angle. Change r, L, e, angle limits, or panel size in Engineer Mode above.
The collision preset changes the browser-local panel width to 80 mm. It is a teaching failure, not a recorded prototype or revision. Reset provisional design beside the diagram restores the source values.

The panel envelope clears the obstruction throughout the configured sweep; closest at 35.06°.

Positive clearance means the envelopes separate; zero is contact; negative means overlap. This checks only the panel envelope against the circle. It does not inspect the link, slider, full meshes, printing tolerances, or physical fit.

A real revision comparison waits for real revisions
There are no reviewed V1 and V2 mechanism parameter sets, matching assets, or dated design decisions to compare. The passing and collision setups above are browser-only examples from one provisional source, not separate prototypes. A side-by-side comparison will be added after authentic revision records and the reason for the change are available.
The geometry rule
One equation drives every pose
The pivot O is fixed at (0, 0). Positive θ turns counterclockwise from +X in the source XY plane. The crank endpoint is C = (r cos θ, r sin θ). The slider S stays on y = e, and the connecting link has length L.
x = r cos θ + √(L² − (e − r sin θ)²)
The plus sign selects the right-hand assembly branch. A negative value under the square root means the rod cannot reach the guide. The full configured sweep is checked for that condition and for slider travel limits. No position is drawn when the current pose is impossible.
Source revision: notebook-provisional-r0. All source dimensions and reported positions are millimeters. The CAD plane is right-handed XY with +Z toward the viewer; a future reviewed web model uses the revision’s millimeter-to-meter conversion and named parts. No reviewed mechanism GLB is published yet.
